Giving
Your generosity does more than provide help—it inspires hope. Every gift supplies daily essentials like food and clothing for local families, while laying the groundwork for our long-term goal: providing safe, emergency community housing.
THE DREAM: A HOME FOR NEIGHBORS IN CRISIS
One day — and we are working toward it right now — MSW Cares Foundation will open a multi-unit housing community for individuals and families in emergency situations, with respite care and the support to start over. Not a shelter. A home.
The whole vision takes about a million dollars. We are going to get there in phases, and every phase is winnable. Here is the road map.
PHASE 1: RAISE THE FUNDS TO OBTAIN LAND — $50,000
Before anything can be built, we need the ground to build it on. Phase 1 covers raising the funds to obtain land, plus closing costs, surveys, and legal work.
Every dollar moves this needle. $25 buys part of the survey. $100 helps bring us closer. This is the phase where your gift is felt the most.
PHASE 2: DESIGN & ENGINEERING. Once the land is ours, the architect and engineer draw the actual building — real plans, real numbers.
PHASE 3: PERMITS & APPROVALS. Zoning, building permits, and all the city paperwork that turns plans into permission.
PHASE 4: BUILD & OPEN DOORS. The big one — construction, funded through grants and construction financing, ending with keys in neighbors' hands.
MSW Cares Foundation has held its charitable exemption since 2013. We are also pursuing discounted land through the Philadelphia Land Bank affordable-housing program — your Phase 1 gift works alongside that effort, not instead of it.
Undesignated funds are divided equally among our three causes: basic living needs, food, and housing.
